Practical tips for international travelers

Budget and payment

Most stalls still prefer cash. Individual snacks commonly cost about NT$40–NT$200; confirm the final price for seafood, weighed items and market-price dishes.

Allergies and dietary needs

Common allergens include peanuts, sesame, shellfish, oysters, fish paste, eggs, dairy, wheat and soy. Vegetarian and halal travelers should also ask about broths, fats and shared cooking equipment.

Best time to visit

For the full atmosphere, visit around 7:00–9:30 PM. For shorter queues, arrive 30–60 minutes after opening on a weekday.

Transport and last services

A market staying open past midnight does not mean the MRT, trains or buses run equally late. Check the last departure before leaving.

Survey method and interpretation

The survey covered foreign and overseas Chinese travelers departing from Taoyuan, Songshan or Kaohsiung international airports in 2025. It used quota sampling and received 6,660 valid responses. Night-market answers were multiple-choice, and the ranking represents relative visit-and-recall rates.
